Will You Hold My Rope?

William Carey was a simple shoemaker in England in the mid 1700’s who was broken hearted and passionate about people dying without hearing the Gospel. Carey, whose motto was “Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God”, had a map of the world above his workbench and he would pray over the people of the world as he worked. At a missionary society meeting the question was asked “Who will go down to the Heathen and take then the Gospel?” William Carey stood and said “I will go but you must hold the rope for me.”
I have read about Carey many times over the years and never thought I would have any correlation to him but as I took Perspectives this past year and read about him again, I resonated with him. I am just a simple girl, who has a simple faith, who simply wants to be obedient. God asked me to go and take His love, His hope and His truth to the physically and spiritually poor in Kenya. I am willing but I need you to hold my rope – tight!
Will you commit to praying for me at least one a week? Will you tear off the response card on my prayer card and send it in? (If you don’t have one send me an email and I will mail one out to you) I have had several people tell they haven’t returned it because “I can’t support you financially, all I can do is pray” I know it sounds missionary-ish but really, the MOST you can do is pray. I need your prayers, if you are not holding my rope I will surely fall. I think this is why I relate to Carey’s plea for rope holders now and I didn’t as much when I was young. I used to think that missionaries were all spiritual giants now I understand they only had the grace and strength to do what they did because people were holding their ropes, interceding to the Father on their behalf and standing in the gap.
I arrived in Colorado late Saturday night and today I start my 4 week training at Missionary Training International, you can check out the program here: ttps://www.mti.org/index.php/programs/COMPASS  I am anxious, a nervous scared anxious for the hard stuff that I know is ahead. Will you pray that God will calm my spirit and make me a sponge for all He has for me to learn in the coming weeks? The past few weeks have been a whirlwind trying to tie things up at work in order to be gone for a month while continuing to raise support and finish my other pre-departure studies – I am weary!  I am thankful for yesterday, a day to lean hard into God and His promises and to clear my mind of all the busyness of the past few weeks.

Will you also continue to pray that God will raise up partners who can help financially send me so that I can go.
“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!” Romans 10:14 – 15
